Listen to the SPOTIFY Podcast: Expert Spotlight Gear Guide for Wild Pig Control
Join FYRLYT designer Paul Alisauskas and the THEPIGDOGGERSONLY Spotify channel for an in-depth, 52-minute discussion on selecting the ultimate spotlighting gear for wild pig control. If you want to maximise your success in the field, this episode is essential listening. Not all spotlights are equal. Sit back and you will soon learn more than most people know!
LED vs HID vs Halogen: The Real Science of Animal Detection
Many hunters assume modern LEDs and HIDs are the only choice for hunting spotlights, but they inherently lack vital properties needed for accurate long-distance animal detection. These short-wavelength lights concentrate heavily in the blue and green spectrum, resulting in a low Colour Rendering Index (CRI).
When you use a low-CRI light at a distance, subtle color differences merge, causing a target like a muddy wild pig or a reddish-brown fox to grey out against its background. By focusing on engineering logic over trends, FYRLYT engineered a hyper-performance halogen system that achieves a perfect 100 CRI—delivering the entire color spectrum so you can instantly differentiate an animal's silhouette from the surrounding scrub.
Supercharging Lumens & Optimising the Parabola
Traditional halogens were often criticized for being too dull, typically maxing out around 3,000 lumens. FYRLYT solved this by supercharging their system to a massive 12,000 lumens.
Paul discusses how the engineering team mathematically optimized the focal points of their precision aluminum reflectors. By shifting from the 198mm SPOTFYR to the massive 245mm HELLFYR 12000 Spotlight, the design captures maximum raw horsepower from the bulb, delivering extreme beam distance without sacrificing crucial width or efficiency.
Beating the Tyndall Effect: Cutting Through Fog and Dust
If you hunt mountainous terrain or dusty paddocks, airborne matter is a constant obstacle. Short-wavelength blue LED light is exponentially predisposed to diffusing when it hits moisture, creating a blinding white wall of feedback. This phenomenon is driven by the Tyndall effect (Rayleigh scattering).
Long-wavelength light, like the yellow and red spectrums natively produced by halogen bulbs, penetrates airborne dust, fog, and light rain vastly better. For professional pest control operators, this means significantly higher visual acuity and clear depth perception when navigating extreme terrain or tracking fast-moving dogs.
The FYRSTIK Remote Control: Built for Balance, Safety, and Solo Hunting
Spotlighting from a vehicle requires gear built to industrial standards. The FYRSTIK Remote Control handle features an aluminum chassis with the control ball coated in heavy-duty nickel plating, designed specifically to address the flaws of older roof-mounted handles. By integrating a spring-loaded friction plate rather than clamping directly onto the ball, the FYRSTIK provides ultra-fine, customisable friction control that holds its position exactly where you let go. Thanks to the patented design you can wire wrap a FYRSTIK! No other handle offers this feature.
Crucially, the HELLFYR and FYRSTIK combination is perfectly counterbalanced right at the center of gravity. The FYRSTIK features an innovative wireless switch that can be strapped directly to your gun rest or fore-end—allowing you to keep your eye on the scope, tap the light on with your thumb, take the shot safely, and instantly turn it off. For use with a remote thermal this is a benefit any professional will value.
Professional Durability and 100% Serviceability
Cheap plastic spotlights quickly degrade, fade, and become brittle under the intense Australian UV sun. FYRLYT vision systems are built from high-yield, anodised structural aluminum and premium borosilicate glass (Pyrex) to withstand extreme thermal shock and heavy impacts.
True to a first-principles design approach, every single component down to the smallest screw is completely replaceable and available as a spare part. A FYRLYT spotlight is a lifelong investment built to be easily maintained, repaired, and serviced by the user for decades.
